It's a shame the Boy Scouts don't follow the lead of the Girl Scouts.

This is sad, the cub scout group that meets at our chuch let a girl join them, there's no girl scout troups relatively close for her. Besides that she's a regular tomboy.

I spent 15 years in Boy Scout Leadership. This girl should never been able to join at all. If her parents lied on the form or did not produce a birth certificate then the parent(s) are at fault. I do not understand how this situation ever developed. The BSA has never had a policy for "transgender" as our current society describes it Fr. I get it, the Catholic Church views people with these issues as liars and people with issues that do not comport with the Catholic dogma. However, not everyone is a Catholic. And not everyone is required to conform to a Catholic mindset. Transgenderism isn't some sort of Red Mafia ploy to undermine the Church or a ploy to increase issues with sexual promiscuity or lack of chastity. It is a real psychological issue with real world problems that require a real world approach not theological bashing and willful ignorance. If we have to talk theologically about it, why not address it as fallout from the Eden situation where flaws in humankind have bloomed and morphed into many different issues and treat these people with compassion as Christ has demonstrated himself? Judging people like this seems very anti-WWJD kind of behavior. And stating that his parent's behavior towards supporting their child in how he views himself in relation to the world as child abuse is also decidedly not what Christ has espoused, and how He would like us to act like as Christians, IMHO. Lastly, I do not recall one verse in the scriptures that specifically address transgendered people as undeserving of respect or compassion- it's possible I'm wrong as I would not claim to be a biblical scholar. Please enlighten me If so.

As for the BSA, their stance on this issue seems a bit hypocritical to their stated purpose as an organization - to develop well rounded, community-minded individuals and leaders, but maybe it's just me.

If the transgender mental state is real then it needs to be treated as a mental illness then and helped to become mentally well. It is not fair or just to allow people to remain in their illness if they can be treated and made well. However to treat the transgender as if there is nothing wrong with them does no good for them nor the rest of us. The transgender issue is being used to distort the understanding of who we are as a created species. I would offer an article written in the online magazine : Crisis Magazine. The article is entitled "Bathroom Wars". The article talks about the transgender issue and how it is being used to an assault on us to remove the last sense of chastity, modesty, differences between the sexes. As I said in my earlier comment, children are now being used/ misused to fight an adult war. If we are willing to use children to fight an adult war how are we different then the "radical Islamist" who straps a bomb vest on a 10 year old to blow up "infadels" ? Fr. Samuel M. Would you support a transgender girl joining a Boy Scout Troop? That is, someone who's birth certificate says male, but they have long hair, wear makeup and paint their nails, have a female name and so on?

Dear ENS Mayberry, thanks for your reply. My reply concerning this issue is not specific to the BSA. My "in depth" reply is to the issue of Transgender. The "war" that has been declared on our institutions(scouting here is a 100 year old institution for the purpose of helping boys mature into adult men) is under assault by the sexual revolution and those in our society who want to remove all differences between the sexes on paper as well as in the minds of our citizenry. Our military is also under assault. The situation being presented by reversing the sex of the person does not change the need for mental health treatment if he is expressing female identity because he thinks he is a female. Notice the term transgender replaces the terms "male and female" that is by design. That is for the purpose of suggesting that there are more than two sexes. Notice there are only two biological sexes but "multiple sexes" in the mind of our society and individual. Denying the "facts on the ground" is never good. If we try to deal with things only as we think they are and not as they really are, we will never have success. If the only reality for the child is in their minds but not in reality, we are not helping them live in the world of reality. The direction of this issue of transgender is requiring all of us to enter into the world of another's mind but ignore the world of reality. That neither helps the person nor ourselves. Fr. Samuel M. Waters, RC Priest.
