Michelle Obama in final speech: 'I hope I've made you proud'

I believe Michelle Obama has carried herself with class and poise over the tenure of her husband's presidency. However, in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Mrs. Obama explains, "...now we are feeling what not having hope feels like..." Then today, she gave a farewell speech stating, "Lead by example with hope; never fear." How can she preach hope when she clearly negates it days ago? What is to be taken seriously?
