We have a "visiting" ex-feral cat, a big strapper who must have a lot of Maine Coon in his genes, who is afraid of everything. If he sees you with grocery bags in hand, he runs away, thinking you might hit him with those bludgeons.
We tried scaring him with a cucumber. He ignored it. When it comes to cats, "Go figure!"
