In a perfect world they would be but when the head of intelligence is a political appointee, there are pressures to give the boss what he wants, when he wants, how he wants it... And that loyalty is often expressed by those whom the appointee trusts and promotes. Human nature being what it is... people suck up and try to please in order to get ahead.

This is by its own setup a poor way to get accurate intelligence. You will more than likely get what you want to hear if you are the political appointee head, so that you can pass the good news along to your boss.

Everything is rosy and going according to plan... There have been no scandals. We know who's to blame Dear Leader and it's not us! The Russians did it!

He kind of picked a fight with the Intel community by discrediting them nx what they do. Right, wrong, indifferent - partisan or non ... it's a strange fight for POTUS and Intel community

I don't believe we've ever seen the FBI and CIA used like this by an administration in our countries history. If they have had some part in stuff like this before, it wasn't as open and direct as it is now with our agencies giving direct reports to our people.

SFC (Join to see) - social media has contributed greatly to this, and internet in general because it's open source, anybody can post anything and unless the site has administrators the low-info types consider it as fact, we not only find out every development in almost real time we also don't have any way of validating the content so even fake news goes viral in short fashion, politicians have loved leaks for years but they're now figuring out that they can work against them because lots more people know about it right away vice a slow leak that gradually works its way through the system, meaning the public gets it about as soon as the pols so there is not time to "massage" it to fit their agenda

1SG(P) (Join to see) - The intel community didn't conclusively prove their case to begin with, but they certainly leaked a lot. I find it much easier to believe Trump in this situation, especially since "the intel community" already leaked to NYT and WaPo.

(Intel community in quotes because it's not the whole community doing the leaking.)

It's not a case. They aren't saying anything happened. They're merely reporting on what Steele elicited from the Russians; what they said they have. No one is saying this actually happened.

1SG(P) (Join to see) - Then what's the point of all the hysteria?

Seriously, this situation reminds me of late October 1984 when Dan Rather wanted to believe something so bad that he rushed to report on the existence of a document (which, if true, would have been very embarrassing/damaging to W. Bush) before fact-checking it, and it took about 15 minutes for the internet to do it for him... but by then the damage was done, and he was forced to retire along with his producer. (Talk about trying to hack an election!)

The only difference now is that the liberal media has gotten to be so good at backtracking that nobody is going to lose their job over this.

That's a great question. But Steele's scared shitless now.
