Visitors to the newly revamped White House website get more than a simple rundown of first lady Melania Trump’s charitable works and interests — they also get a list of her magazine cover appearances and details on her jewelry line at QVC.
Trump’s biography starts with traditional details such as her date of birth in her native country of Slovenia and information about her background as a model. That’s when the brief backgrounder takes a promotional turn. The website includes a lengthy list of brands that hired her as a model and several of the magazines in which she appeared, including the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
It is not uncommon for the White House to note the accomplishments of the first lady in her official biography, but Trump’s decision to include a detailed list of her media appearances is unusual.
The site also lists the brand names of Trump’s jewelry lines sold on QVC, at a time when questions have been raised by critics about the ethical implications of the family’s business entanglements.
“Melania is also a successful entrepreneur. In April 2010, Melania Trump launched her own jewelry collection, ‘Melania™ Timepieces & Jewelry,’ on QVC,” the site reads.
President Trump has been criticized for failing to fully sever ties with his famous business empire. He announced earlier this month that he would turn over control of his businesses to his two adult sons, but critics say he has not gone far enough. The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington tweeted Friday that Trump is in violation of the emoluments clause in the Constitution, which bars elected officials from profiting from the office they hold.

I personally do not see it as promotion, but rather a detailed listing of what she has accomplished and where she has been featured.

I'm a Trump skeptic and I don't think it's unethical. It merely lists her previous experience. It seems wordy to me because I don't care which covers she's "graced" nor who's photographed her. If there were a link to her collection that would be a different issue.

I still don't think it's an ad. It's just a statement of fact that she launched a product. A quick search of QVC shows nothing available for sale. I'll concede it may even seem shallow and superficial, perhaps in poor taste. But that doesn't necessarily rise to the level of ethics.

Sir, I didn't mean the photo. I meant the hint of commercialism. My point being, the things we dislike aren't necessarily unethical, illegal, or immoral.

1SG(P) (Join to see) - yes, I am sorry I did not reiterate in agreement your observations on her web page. I read every word and it looked professinonal. Her bio was on her success not her endorsing products she was assocaited with.

No that is not an issue because if people remember when Michelle Obama was in the white house as the first lady she wore 90% of her clothes were J.Crew. everyone was running to J crew at the mall to get the latest fashions promoted by Michelle Obama then for some reason J.Crew went out of business. So Melania Trump if the White House is promoting her jewelry line and J crew promoting Michelle Obama wearing their clothes line there's no issue no one had a problem with Michelle no one should have a problem with Melania.
