I beg to differ with that article! In our house Bourbon was NEVER used as a teething or sleep aid for youngsters. Only peppermint schnapps.
On the farm- driving tractors at age 10, and driving old pickups at 12, unsupervised, with younger siblings in/on the vehicle. Also, a quarter of the trips I took under the age of 16 were probably in the open back of a pickup.
We were expected not to be idiots, so we weren't. We were expected to do dangerous things safely so as not to off ourselves or others, so we did.
And we survived.
