1SG(P) (Join to see) i read elsewhere that this plan had come together under the last admin, but was pushed back due to one requirement being a full moon. The next full moon fell when this event took place.
Not quite sure of the full validity if this, but would be interested to know more.

SSgt (Join to see) It was not that they were waiting on a "full moon" it was that they were waiting for a "new moon", they were waiting for this for cover and concealment reasons.

CPT (Join to see) - that's right! As soon as i typed it the little voice in my head was telling me "full moon" was incorrect. Thank you, Captain :)

I agree with a lot of Exum's statements in this article. Caustic though it may be to say, or print, failures will happen to include the loss of friendlies, collateral damage to innocent civilians and perhaps an overall mission failure. It happens. Think of Eagle Claw in 1980. Circumstances and fate have a strange way of equalizing things, including that old favorite, Murphy's Law, no matter how much tactical advantage or relative superiority we may think we have.
I'm not going to get into the politicizing of Benghazi by the GOP to embarass Hillary; frankly, I think she and the president then did enough of that on their own. That said, today's highly-charged political climate vis-a-vis the electorate will consequently have a stake and probably a disproportionate share of anything that transpires under Trump's watch, good, bad or indifferent. All of these missions, then, will need to be taken with the requisite grains of salt to get to the real story, if that's even possible.
I wish us all luck in that endeavor. Rest in peace Chief Owens and to all who lost their lives on that mission.
