I question everything that comes out of these studies. Anyone who answered a survey saying someone gave them a "good game" is added to the numbers.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem, I'm saying it's drastically exaggerated.

Ok, but one is too many. We (SMs) have enough enemies outside the military; no need to mistreat those in the Service.

Did you find the "good game" thing in the article? Not making a mountain out of a mole hill is a valid point, but sexual assault, even one, is no mole hill.

full disclosure. I didn't read this article but it sounds like the same online survey (that I remember taking) was used as the source data. 1 is to many but saying that "The moment a man enlists in the United States armed forces, his chances of being sexually assaulted increase by a factor of ten." Is a flat out lie that anyone with a basic understanding of statistics can drive a MRAP through.

Sir,

the problem is, that once you are ok slapping someone's ass, you have opened a door to the "next thing".

Would you slap one of your female lieutenants on the rear at the office? No? Why is it ok to do it to a man then?

That's the problem. People don't look at it in context. People would LOSE THEIR MINDS if I slapped a female on the rear at the office. Sexual assault, legally by definition. But if someone tells the commander that SPC Smith slapped male SPC Jones on the butt, people usually laugh and might say "knock it off".

Reading the comments from MAJ Kile's original post, yes, this is an unsettling topic for we as men to wrap our head around. I can also appreciate MAJ Miller's concerns that the frequency of said occurrences may be greatly exaggerated. Why have our overall numbers of reported incidents of Sexual Assault continued to climb for the past 4 years despite our best efforts to combat them? Because we are transmitting the message that Sexual Assault will not be tolerated within our ranks; we have created the climate in which Soldiers now feel comfortable coming forward when they are victimized - it's a measure of effectiveness. The same emphasis is now being placed on reporting occurrences of male-on-male or female-on-male Sexual Assault.
