The only new part of this is the on line policy. As a retiree, I have used my veterans discount for years.

Same. I've got Veteran stamped on my Driver's License (new thing in Michigan), and only had to show that to get my 10%. But it's at any Lowes'
Home Depot, it's hit-or-miss whether they give that discount, and proof of service can vary even within the store (one person took the DL tag, one person required my VA card, one person took me at my word, etc). Luckily, it's more hit than miss in my area. Plus, after a water heater replacement fiasco, I'm more apt to shop at Home Depot. At least for things that have moving parts. Dirt is dirt, charcoal is charcoal, after all...
