Try going to an emergency room and telling them you want 4 months of chemotherapy for your cancer because you have can't afford the insurance payments for a policy that will cover the tens to hunfreds of thousands it will cost and see what happens. What happens is you go without the chemo and die, while those wealthy enough get chemo and have a much better chance of living.

Emergency room is not designed for chronic care and four months of chemo would be that. I just lost a friend with good health insurance to cx, cx does not pick and choose who it kills. I am not wealthy but by having a plan at age 17, I will have cx coverage for life retiring from the military. Reality of it is, no one dies from lack of access, they die from accidents and illness with poor to no treatment options. Single payer and socialist insurance that so many want cut people off at a certain point of their value to society verse cost. We do not do that currently but if so many get their wishes, we will.

I have worked in a major Hosp ER and currently I do acute care transfers. EMTALA states that any person needing emergent medical care can go to the ER and get seen. The problem with "emergent" that is subjective. Payment is not a concern for treatment. Saddly there are still Thousands of people do not have medical insurance regardless what the feds say.

Here is a link to a local news outlet. http://idahostatejournal.com/members/labrador-nobody-dies-because-they-don-t-have-access-to/article_d5eee6d5-d711-5e5a-9910-68aa5ff9e6f8.html
Labrador also recently took a beating in a town hall a few weeks ago but this town hall was packed by the minority of democrat voters in Idaho so it was not a true representation. All in all Labrador is following his conservative constituency and is likely to be running for governor of Idaho soon.
