One other thing I want to add. I think that many instead of being atheist may just be apathetic towards religion as a whole.

Internet is in fact destroying many things due to the freedom of flowing information. Whether or not the information is accurate is up to discussion.

I think the Internet is a big factor for more swaying away from Christianity, however it ultimately still comes to upbringing. Most children who are raised within a very religious family, will not let any outside influences sway their religious beliefs even the Internet.

GySgt Moses Lozano - that's called indoctrination, and it is how cults like the FLDS are able to abuse children, marrying off young 12 and 13 year old girls to 50 year old men.

Religion is about belief not knowledge. Anyone who wants to allow Snopes to decide what they believe is neither religious nor atheist. They are sheep

SrA Edward Vong - That's exactly correct, and it is also one of the reasons that the young in our society have a higher percentage who are atheists or non-religious. They are used to fact checking, and want to see evidence.

CPT Jack Durish - I agree, but knowledge is a subset of belief. Also, I thought that sheep was what the Christian religion wanted, with the references to a "good shepherd" and the descriptions of a congregation as a "flock."

Or maybe more people are leaving religion because of their antiquated policies, beliefs and views. Maybe it's due to people being more knowledgeable and are able to research all the religions out there to make a better choice than just blindly following what their parents shoved on them.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I was waiting for that response and I was betting that you were the one smart enough to hit me with it. Yes, people who go to church/temple/synagogue for knowledge are just as much sheep as those who use fact checkers for beliefs.
