I was in a 100-year storm in the Bering Sea once, on a Very Large Crude Carrier -- roughly 300k DWT, loaded (thankfully). We had waves coming up over the bridge wings -- about 5 stories above the deck, which was above 25 feet of freeboard in itself. One of those monsters bent a 2-foot thick steel boom. One of two times at sea that I honestly thought I'd finally paid off that farm.
