Homicide detectives handled the investigation because of the seriousness of the assaults, police said. Investigators served warrants Wednesday at unspecified addresses in San Leandro and Oakland, the latter of which is where authorities took Clanton into custody. In a statement Thursday, police acknowledged that video of the incident, captured by onlookers and posted on social media, helped them identify Clanton as the suspect behind “several violent assaults” that happened April 15 during the demonstration at Civic Center Park on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Police confirmed Clanton can be seen in videos hitting people in the head with a U-shaped bicycle lock. Three people received “significant injuries” because of the beatings, police said.

We better start registering all the bicycle locks and require a full and complete background check. We certainly don't want bicycle locks falling into the wrong hands.

We will also need to make sure a California DOJ issue serial number be permanently inscribed on all such destructive devices such as the all too dangerous U lock. I can see it all now. (I think I have lived in California way too long.)

Before the university started cleaning up their website it stated that the individual had been employed there since 2015, interesting how that works. And that in 2016 he also worked as an instructor in the Contra Costa Community College District and as a lecturer in the California State University system.
