The Racial Segregation of American Cities Was Anything But Accidental

I remember as a child my parents moving to what was originally a white neighborhood. We noticed that the more integrated the neighborhood became, the white neighbors were lured by the Realtors to move to the suburbs. The neighborhood is still a nice one comma compared to the decline of the lower-income neighborhood we moved from. However, I always had friends and classmates of every stripe from elementary through high school.

I read that load of crap, and I identified one true statement in it. "And if we understand that our segregation IS a governmentally sponsored system, which of course we’d call de jure segregation, only then can we begin to remedy it. BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENED BY INDIVIDUAL CHOICE, IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE HOW TO REMEDY IT" (emphasis added).

Presenting the segregation argument in the present tense, as if it is currently the government policy to segregate, is completely disingenuous. It might have happened half a century ago, but complaining about it now would be like someone with 20 years of service complaining about being in the military because they were drafted. Yeah, you mighta got shafted back in the day, but every decision you made since then is a decision YOU made, that you don't get to blame on anyone else.
