ISIS is Sunni and was created after America supported the mostly Shia Iraqi government who suppressed the Sunnis. ISIS was lead by two former Saddam Generals and followed Muhammad's commands to form a Caliphate.
I'm not sure how the Shia will gain a lot of Sunnis to help them wage war on American interests. Iran just lost 7 ships and there were a few explosions in their nuke factories. So, I bet the Shia fly will be careful not to bother the large tusked male elephant.
