The superintendent has issued an apology and said that the principal was wrong.

To be fair, it's the principal and vice-principal that made this simple, obvious error. It's not like they're educated or anything.

The law supersedes school policy not the other way around. That said, he did the right thing by not making a scene. From here, he should take the appropriate actions to ensure it doesn't happen to future SMs.

As a side note, If they were asking him to wear cap and gown over the uniform, that is acceptable. Telling him the uniform is an outright no-go, however, isn't. That detail is a little fuzzy to me.
