I agree with this to an extent, but anyone who criticizes the capabilities of the LCS have not seen how incapable the Perry class is.

Was a mistake to decommission all the OHPs to begin with. They should have seen a modernization plan commencing with the decommissioning of the SM-1 missile they originally wielded and the removal of their missile launchers.
Still, even the "defanged" OHPs were more capable warships than the LCSs.
The Navy has a lot of experience in changing out the control systems on ships like these, most of the remaining Ticonderoga class ships have had their old engineering consoles removed and replaces with more modern systems based on what's been fielded on the Arleigh Burke class ships. These are basically the same as what's on the America class LHAs.
The Navy could put a small 8-12 cell VLS launcher on the bow where the old Mk 13 launchers used to be. Not sure if the hull can handle a VLS launcher that can fire SM-2s or Tomahawks (though lets face it, 8-12 cells wouldn't make for much of a strike platform) but at least stick some ESSMs in there.

The Aussies did it and kept the Mk13.

HMAS Sydney (FFG 03) - Wikipedia
HMAS Sydney (FFG 03) was an Adelaide-class guided-missile frigate of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The frigate was one of six modified Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates ordered from 1977 onwards, and the third of four to be constructed in the United States of America. Laid down and launched in 1980, Sydney was named for the capital city of New South Wales, and commissioned into the RAN in 1983.

SCPO (Join to see) - Aren't they still using the SM-1? As I recall we sold our remaining supply of SM-1s to our allies that were operating their own OHPs.
Presumably the Mk 13 can't be feasibly retrofitted to fire the SM-2 or even the "lets decomission everything right now" Navy of the early-mid 2000s would have done that. Maybe a new variant of the SM-2 can be developed that's the same size as the SM-1 but I'm not sure that will be cost effective for a max of 7 ships, but then again our allies who are still using their Mk 13 equipped OHPs might buy them as well. I wonder if we still have the MK 13 launchers in storage to put back on those ships.

PO2 Robert Aitchison Sorry, should of said in my last post they have VLS and Mk13 on their Perry classes.

SCPO (Join to see) - Yeah I was reading about that, retrofitting their OHPs with VLS to fire ESSMs is exactly what I was suggesting above. Sounds like the Aussies have already developed what we need to give these ships new teeth.
