This is beyond scary. Too many systems are out of date.

Even funnier is that all of our computers are made in China.

I grabbed this pic when I toured my son's ship when she got back from her last deployment in 2014. That's Windows XP on the right and Windows NT 4.0 Server on the left. Windows NT 4.0 was a contemporary of Windows 95.

That said, one thing the article doesn't mention is that major organizations, and that for sure includes the DoD pay Microsoft for continued support for their older operating systems. That means that they likely still are receiving critical security updates.

NT 4.0 Server and Workstation are two of the most stable Microsoft OS' I have ever worked with. I got my MCSE on NT 4.0. I would still use it today if I had the support for it.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Oh I know, I first got my MCSE with 3.51, (which was actually a bit more stable since the GUI wasn't yet moved to ring 0).

Up until a couple years ago I was still running a Windows 2000 Server but the hardware finally failed.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - That is not entirely accurate. Support for private customers yes. Support for governments and entities willing to pay for extended support, not so much. SSG(P) (Join to see) PO2 Robert Aitchison
