I just read this article today. It's very interesting if they were spies but yes tragic either way. It's pretty logical that they were spies and the government covered it up. I think now they could at least admit it though.

Has to be a record somewhere- we would not have just ignored it like nothing happened and that is where the spy angle intrigues me.

I've actually wondered about this off and on the past two decades or so. Humankind has to be getting close to having the technology to swath larger regions of the ocean floor to look for wreckage. It very well may come down to the cost/logistics of such a large project.

You bring up a great point MSgt Jason McClish cost/ logistics. My gut feeling is there is a person out there that will find a few more expeditions to "find" her. Sell ad space, make innuendos, raise questions, and never answer the question. Slick way to make a buck off a tragedy. America loves a conspiracy theory narrated by Big Foot. I am very American as well.

Bigfoot is real, just like Nessie, and the Abominable Snowman, etc.

The Japanese I'm sure we're aware of her flight path because she made so much publicity in her around the world flight and I doubt they would interfere. I don't think they would capture her if anything I think they would have rescued her giving her a hero's welcome and giving her a free trip back to the US.

MSgt Kurt S. - here are some historical documents documenting the US's relationship with Japan and early 1937 which at this point is only strain by the Immigration Act of 1924 and maybe some dumping of products by the Japanese into US markets. This is the Great Depression so protectionism is on everyone's mind..
