It is the function of politicians to identify the enemy and declare war. After that, they need to get the hell out of the way. It the war commanders are succeeding, reward them. If they are failing, replace them. But politicians micromanaging the conduct of war is a proven formula for disaster.

CPT Jack Durish Which is why I, and the vast majority of our current warfighters, were ecstatic to hear that POTUS gave Mattis the right-of-way to conduct war operations, instead of having him at the beck and call of the politicians!

Yeah, I hope they consider this General's intent at the time, which I doubt was to violate the ROE. Considering the loose interpretation and the fact a war was going on, it sounds reasonable. I wonder if his back pay would be due to his family members?

CW3 (Join to see) Good question. It's always easy to condemn someone when you're looking at their actions from the other side of the globe & have a thousand voices telling you they're in the wrong.

Typical political scapegoat. Reputation ruined by the man trying to cover up his own crimes. In order to be confirmed. This is when our military began its decline. When service members turned on service members. NCOs started to stop protecting their subordinates. Officers became kiss asses instead of hard chargers. We lost our aspre de corp. Maybe we will fix our problems. Although with the desamation of our Officer Corp during Obama i doubt it for quite a while.
