The crowd seemed to enjoy the speech. Trump being there was going to annoy the hell out of the progressives, period. He could have delivered the Gettysburg Address and he would have been condemned for it.

The BSA is a non partisan organization but they can invite whomever they like to speak. He did talk about the men in his cabinet who were boy scouts and talked about the life lessons of scouting too.

SFC (Join to see) - And a lot were fine with it. Some would not be happy regardless of what he said, just that he was there. If parents are worried their child will be influenced by a single 30 minute speech they should immediately remove them from public schools. That is an idiotic concern. He is a political figure, being there, by default will tick off 1/2 the voting population based upon todays climate.

To each his or her own. He didn't need to inject politics into a Boy Scout speech at all.

I never had teachers who injected politics when I was in school and I went to public school.

Cpl Jeff N. - How about the fact that the scouts decided to break very long standing rules on support of a political agenda? He gave a campaign speech at a scout rally and that is over the line the scouts themselves have drawn,

Have you read the speech?

Are you even listening to the comments from parents and members of the BSA or just going to sum it all up to progressive butt hurt? I listened to a few people on the radio the next morning whom said they attended the event or watched it while claiming to be former Scouts and Trump supporters yet still felt it was inappropriate for that venue. So no this isn't about progressives being annoyed.

Scouting is a great program - and it is sad to see it abused in this way. I would not give up on it - keep the kids in the program - and reform the nature of speaking invitations - specifically to avoid violating the nonpolitical requirement for 501(c)3 organizations.

As long as the BSA is not taking positions, supporting/endorsing candidates etc. they avoid the nonpolitical requirement. They can have speakers at their meetings. The POTUS is the honorary President of the BSA so they are invited to speak. As always, more is made of less around here than is easy to understand.

Notice a pattern 1LT Sandy Annala?

Whenever POTUS is in front of a microphone, he just goes into autodrive. He seemingly can't help it.

I guess if you wanted to find a reason to be offended you could dig it out of the speech.
-The guy spoke about the people on his team that were scouts, how scouting set young folks up for success and made them leaders.
-Patriotism and love of country.
-Spoke about never giving up, finding a job you are passionate about so work would be a challenge and not a chore.
-Spoke about supporting our military, police and veterans.
-Honoring and respecting the flag.
-Bringing jobs back to America, (if I was young I'd like to hear that work was returning and I would have a chance at success)
-Gave a vignette of a man who had tremendous success, lived high on the hog then lost his butt because he failed to maintain momentum. That's a pretty poignant concept that youth would benefit from in future endeavors.
-spoke about duty, honor and service and recognized the scouts for a huge amount of volunteer hours given in service. Highlighted the scouts contributions in disaster relief and the fact that scouts are a dependable resource in delivering aid in times of strife.
The only thing I heard that sounded improper was the dig on President Obama. I didn't like his policies but he was still a President. The argument could be made that he earned it by not attending the 2 Jamborees that were held during his tenure but made plenty time for counter culture events, but I don't think he should have kicked him in the nuts in that forum.
So again if you wanted to be offended and overlooked the positive points and comments there's your ammo.
I think Trump could pull children from burning buildings, lay on a grenade or cure cancer and someone would find fault with which child he rescued first, who the grenade was meant for and that curing cancer somehow benefitted the Russians more than America .

SFC (Join to see) - Why, it's good for kids to hear adults speak as adults, and people to behave as they are , not what others think they should be. Everything spoken about is relevant to what is happening in America today and those topics will impact those Scouts as they learn and grow to be men of sound character.
It generates conversations and teachable moments. Scouting builds strong leaders, and strong leaders have to field tough questions and shape sound arguments, and like any training event which is what a Jamboree is you discuss the days events much like an AAR in the military.
The notion that past presidents did not introduce politically charged topics into the speeches is absolute horse pucky. Everything from drug abuse, nationalism to human rights has been addressed by past presidents in the same venue with the same audience.

CSM Richard StCyr - No it's good to let kids be kids and not expose them to bs. He had no reason to talk about Obama or anything political at all.

To each his or her own. Agree to disagree.

SFC (Join to see) - Kids get exposed to BS all the time. Especially if their parents use them to make a political point by pulling them out of the Scouts to do it.
