Interesting video. There are several ways to look at it. Over there they require infrastructure like this. When you don’t need the infrastructure don’t build it, you have to maintain it, that costs a lot of money. Also if you have a natural disaster lime an earthquake, you’re dead meat. Look at the pain the earthquake cause in the late 80’s in California I believe it was. My opinion is if you don’t need the infrastructure don’t build it. We have lots of developable land in the US if the government didn’t own half of the west.

I was in the Loma Prieta Earthquake... currently high-speed ferries (hydrofoils) service the routes between Macao & Hong Kong. The PRC needs to close that loop in a more cost effective manner. Sure, initial costs are high, but they have the cash (for now). I'm interested in how the bridge stands up under a typhoon. the PRC aren't stupid & are excellent engineers.

Yes they have some excellent engineers. Being an old bridge designer myself I would like to see some the design calculations and assumptions they made. Sometimes the assumptions you base the design on are most important. They also have some of the most unstable earth to build on. I too want to see how it stands up to a typhoon. One thing we found out about earthquakes over the years: as soon as we measured a force and tried to design for it, the next time the force would hit in a little different direction, that could be disastrous.
