This is an interesting article on one of George Washington's escaped slaves. Washington spent some time trying to recover Oney Judge offering a ten dollar reward for her recapture.

Very good article from a time when owning slaves or indentured servant's was common place.

Don't justify slavery, simply point out that in 1700s the attitude towards it isn't what it is now, or even until the Civil War for that matter.

Okay SGT (Join to see) much ado about an oft repeated story IMHO.
In our modern culture slavery" is abhorrent yet slavery is more prominent now than it was in the 18th century - Islamic practices, sex slave trade, indentured servants for life, etc.
