This "...Southern Patriot..." is an idiot. His innuendo is an affront to the bravery of Black Troops who fought and died under often adverse conditions.

The "Buffalo Soldiers" have a right to be proud of their record. Hell, a detachment of the 9th Cav was assigned to teach West Point cadets how to ride. Under Pershing, they took San Juan Hill next to the Rough Riders. They were good soldiers.

Having said that, the view of the Plains tribes such as the Comanche and the Kiowa, and the Southwest tribes such as the Apache is very different. The director of an American Indian museum said "The Buffalo Soldiers take great pride in dressing up in Cavalry uniforms and parading around as if hunting our people down and forcing them onto reservations was at one time, the patriotic thing to do."

Southern Patriot is bringing up a valid point. Many don't realize that while the 7th Cav was at Wounded Knee, the fight the following day between Lakota fleeing the massacre and the 7th Cav unit involved in the massacre only ended when the 9th Cav was sent to relieve the pressure on the 7th.

The 9th and 10th Cav were involved in harassing the Comanche, who were reduced to eating grubs and rodents until they surrendered at Fort Sill, almost starved to death. If you want to know more about the Indian view, you can Google "Buffalo soldiers genocide."

Southern Patriot is not an idiot, nor stupid, nor is he bringing up an invalid point. If you do away with one part of history because you don't like it, why keep other parts?
