America has the richest poor people. Comparing, America's poor people are richer than many people in other countries.

The "progressive" tax structure is what makes it regressive. Some people get it in their heads that the rich should pay a higher rate in taxes just because they're rich. What those people fail to realize is that most rich people already have their tax dodges in place, so in reality those higher tax brackets don't penalize people for being rich, they penalize people for becoming rich. That's why we should have a flat tax with no exemptions (beyond the first $20K or so which would be untaxed) and no deductions. At all.
