This happened in the Army during the late 70s. They RIF so many Vietnam Era pilot that the reserves were called up for involuntary four year active tours. That's how this former SSG Ranger became a Warrant Officer Aviator. WORWAC classes went fron 20 to 75 at two week intervals.

Oh my! I was retired due to my medical condition which is a bad back. I wish that I could serve but I am in the rear with all kinds of gear.

yep my father retired in 83 got recalled in 91 when DS kicked off and I ended up TDY there
