Over 200 years ago Gun Rights in the US were codified IN the Constitution. Most recently the SCOTUS clarified that those rights are INDIVIDUAL rights. Guns have been a integral part of our culture ever since. Of the 300,000,000 estimated guns in the hands of civilian individuals there is an additional estimation that NO MORE than 35% of those weapons ownership exist in ANY data base under which any attempt to confiscate would have to operate. That leaves an estimated 200,000,000 unregistered weapons that would be difficult or impossible to confiscate. Kinda like trying to expel 20,000,000 illegal aliens. You might get a percent but you WON'T get them all. AND criminals WILL find a way to get at those left behind.

I will have pretty much no respect for any gun control advocates until they actually propose amending or abolishing the 2nd Amendment. There is a constitutional process for this, and that process does NOT involve incrementally passing anti-gun legislation and hoping a friendly judge approves it.
