I spent my youth fishing off the coast at Vandenberg A.F.B. It was great.

seems to me every base i ever visited in CONUS had a rod & gun club... i know you can fish at most of the Marine Bases. hunting has to be taken on a case by case basis due to guys disguised as bushes running around

Lots of chemical waste buried under V-berg. Just saying. Gotta watch out for those Snowy Plovers. V-berg is a beautiful location.

CMSgt (Join to see) - Unburnt missile fuel was a concern in some areas, lots of spent bullets in the dunes, great place to spend the weekends.

Yeah, there was some good hunting there. They had some of the best hog hunting in the area, but Government Regulations said I could not use my 41 magnum handgun to hunt with. You cannot hunt on Government land with a handgun was how it was explained to me. The deer were smaller than Texas Hill-country deer, and they were infested with fleas. Yeah, we did burn a lot of missile fuel when we launched Titan IV's on South Base.

Osan AB, Korea had a Rod and Gun Club that provided pheasant hunting off-base. S. Korea has strict gun laws resulting in pheasant overpopulations. Lots of fun trekking through the rice patties and the pheasants were plentiful. Korean farmers would come out to watch and we always gave them a few for letting us hunt on their land. We would take our haul to a local barbeque joint "Cherry Boys Barbeque" and mama-san would clean em cook em for us. Of course, we would give her a couple for her troubles. Fun times.

Not sure if hunting is still allowed off-base at Osan, this was back in the 80s.

Dad would hunt there when he was in Okinawa. (1960's) It was good eats for the whole family. Don't have any to hunt here in Texas.

I knew about it. I have done quite a bit of hunting in the Camp Roberts area of California. What sucks is they allow civilians in too. There should be a priority list of military and veterans first.
