Have you driven in Chicago DC or Dallas during rush hour? Very few auto collisions in the farmlands of Illinois, but do in the city with heavy traffic. You would be surprised at how short a couple thousand yards is when two ships are closing at 20 kts. No excuses for these two, the Navy screwed up.
