Navy officer convicted of adultery gets chance to clear her name

I remember this case!!! I hope she gets it all overturned and wins!!
So the crux of her Commands case was they had pictures, which showed a man and woman engaged in sex with no faces visible, given to them by the man's estranged wife in order to prove the affair. Penland and the "married" man, Lt. j.g. Mark Wiggan, denied having a relationship. The word of a Pissed off wife / Chief (who was in the middle of being divorced by the LTjg Wiggans) and a Photo of two people having sex but you cant identify them, along with specious e-mails, which could have been created by anyone having "access" to Wiggin's account. Her command decided to throw the book at her 60 days in jail a dishonorable discharge with a felony record.
All of this was after she had filed substantiated claims of waste, fraud and abuse against her command. She wrote her U.S. Congressman (Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif.) and filed complaints with the Department of Defense (DOD) and NECC Inspector General's office.
As for her command they bent rules to pay for building construction and upgrades and allowed civilian contractors to manage military personnel, She also filed an EO complaint but the command dismissed it even though other members had substantiated it.
Tell me this wasn't retaliation...

Wow! Sounds nds like she got screwed by the Navy. Sadly, she won’t be the last. The system doesn’t like it when you buck it. It happens many times in the civilian world too. Hopefully she will be made whole again.

The Truth was already out there its getting the right people to hear it and set things right. Sadly in all branches and in all parts of our government we have to many people left unattended in positions of power that corrupt the system. While the Military requires us to move around to help mitigate this possibility too many in small community's never move far and become very entrenched.

Someday, perhaps, we can have a military that doesn't think it needs to regulate what happens in the bedrooms of its members.

There is a level that I agree with you on that, I think in this case it wasn't even her bedroom and the charge was a conspiracy to oust a good officer who was doing the job she was assigned. People higher than her did not like that she was cutting into their "good old boys" system and that their corruption was about to be found out. What they were doing was no different than the Fat Leanord case that we are still having fall out from. She got railroaded by a bunch of corrupt people and the IG still hasn't finished the initial investigation 10 years later... I wonder why?

Exactly. I have known people that were swingers that got busted after their command found out. Everything was in the open, spouses had no issues with one another sleeping with other people but somehow it was the command's business to get involved. They did not receive the sort of discharge this officer received but did lose rank.
