An absolute mustz the film never did it justice, the single funniest military novel ever written, I'd thought, whole psychoanalytic tracts have been written about how the term got introduced into English lexicon....

FYI Capt Daniel Goodman while I was a cadet at West Point in the mid-to-late 1970s we read Catch-22. At that time my company tactical officer was Major Major which was incredibly ironic.
Later while I was stationed in West Germany I ran across my former tac officer who was by then LTC Major :-)
Catch 22 is a wonderful "war" novel which captures this essence of inane bureaucracy.
