Have you ever had a 30 or 40 year old car? How much extra maintenance was required to keep it running? On a ship at sea, the maintenance is exponentially more difficult and the problems are larger. I served on an OHP and loved it, but it had few weapons systems, couldn't connect with other ships and had a ton of material problems (and all OHP's were like that). If we want to get cheaper ships, stop trying to develop our own. Use an off the shelf hull form (Sweden has some pretty good ones) that has already had the kinks worked out, and modify it for our needs.

Our USA Military Industrial Complex isn't going to like that idea.

MCPO Roger Collins - Well, they have gad enough screw ups lately, maybe they will realize that it is easier to shape a wheel than reinvent it...

I served on the O'CALLAHAN, DE-1051 in 1971 in Vietnam. The OHP class is an EXCELLENT ship. This is a great idea for the Navy.
