Florida Firearms Owners! SB 1242 & HB 739 would extend your rights dramatically!
With the recent stopping of several pro-firearms rights Bills in the Florida legislature, Sen. Steube filed a bill today (12/12/17), SB 1242, which is identical to Rep. Fant’s HB 739 which was filed back on 11/117/2017. The Senate website describes SB 1242 as “Carrying of Weapons and Firearms: Providing that specified provisions relating to the carrying of weapons and firearms do not apply to persons engaged in, traveling to, or returning from certain outdoor activities or traveling to or returning from certain motor vehicles, residences, shelters, and other places, etc.”.
These matching Bills attempt to list quite a few new activities that would allow a person to either open carry or concealed carry while participating in, or going to or from these activities. These would create a new set of activities where a person could lawfully possess a firearm without having to have a concealed weapons permit. The list is mostly outdoor activities that a vast majority of Floridians do now, only this would allow you to lawfully possess and carry a firearm for self-defense while participating in any of the listed activities.

SGT Chris Wagoner- By, With, and Through the grace of God, I live in Texas and carry a S&W M&P everyday. We follow the 30.6 and 30.7 Federal statues here and individual businesses have their gun stances listed on their entrance ways. I frequent the pro gun establishments. I have to agree that this looks like its more trouble than its worth. Why do we have a Constitutional Right based on conditions, environment, and daily activities? Thats right, we don't. Endowed Rights are the issue being decided (guns are the current application) and the People of Florida are accepting an elite group of people to hand out Rights as they see fit. The troubling aspect is this is not Constitutional. My advice to anyone carrying is to research USCCA and other type associations that will get you a lawyer once you violate a very complicated law.

Has anyone ever been charged and convicted of illegal firearm possession in FL for carrying a weapon from his house to his car? And as for that incredibly expansive list being the answer to solve that rather narrow legal problem (if it exists in practice at all) is ridiculous. If they want to make open or concealed carry legal everywhere, then have rhe guts to say so and write the bill. Don't hide the true purpose of the bill from the people. If the people support it, they will vote for it.
But that list is over the top. It lists MUSHING as an authorized activity. That's right, MUSHING in Florida.
