The town I pretty much grew up in since 1963, I knew every cop on the force personally, from the chief down to the beat cops. Of course this was made possible because my mom worked at the police dept. When I came home after I got out of the service, about half of the officers on the force, I went to school with. From 1963 to 2012 I knew every officer that worked there. Where I live now, I know most of the officers on the city force, most of the deputy's at the sheriffs dept, including the sheriff and quite a few state troopers.
The point I'm trying to make is that of all the LEO's that I have known over the last 50+ years(most are good friends), I can count on 1 hand the ones who never should never have been cops.
No matter how much screening, testing whatever there are always going to be bad ones that slip by. Problem with that is by the time you find out their bad it is usually to late.

Total BS but not different than other similar opinions and views espoused in this day and age. Delete all the opinionated judgemental statements in the piece and see how much is left which constitute facts. Trying to smear all LEOs based on the poor judgments and bad acts of a few is faulty reasoning and only gets support from other like-minded people. Such arguments can never change one single mind. I read in an article recently slamming LEOs, that stated there were 800 unarmed civilians killed by LEOs in the US last year - it didn't say how many were justified and how many were taken to court and convicted of abuse of power and convicted and sent away etc.. Truth would be better served to provide more facts and let people objectively make up their minds. If I am already biased or prejudiced and hate LEOs no amount of facts will convince me otherwise.

I've only met one or two LEO's that were shady, the rest that I know, and have known were, and are honest men that follow the rules and regs.
