Mattis does not like dead wood and people that do not get results. As Mattis is famous for saying, "Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet." In this case he fired them which is a as close as you can get to killing them.

That's bound to get a lot of conjecture going about the legal proceedings at Gitmo.

MAJ Montgomery Granger - Obama holdover? Not quite. Mattis appointed Rishikof as Convening Authority back in April. Not hard to see why Trump can so easily fool some people.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - Not so fast, MSgt, there's more here than meets the eye: "He was chosen during the Obama administration, according to several people with knowledge of the process. But his actual appointment was delayed until Secretary of Defense James Mattis could sign off on it." Ref: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/guantanamo/article141283078.html

What happened was that when Mattis discovered the Swamp Creature's pedegree he decided it was best to appoint him and then fire him after a reasonable amount of time so as not to draw immediate fire from the Alt-Left.

Why on earth would Mattis want a civilian running the show at Gitmo legal? He wouldn't. Now he can get his person in there without much criticism. Remember President Trump saying he would have sent the NYC terrorist to Gitmo were it not for the much speedier Federal court option? That was a message to Mattis that he was dissatisfied with the inefficiency of the Military Commission

Military Commissions Act of 2009 gives virtually the same rights you or I would enjoy in a US federal court to unlawful combatant Islamists who want to kill us. What sense does that make? Watch Mattis recommend a new Military Commissions Act to get more in line with FM 27-10 (Law of Land Warfare) commission, which affords to a person accused of war crimes the same protections a US troop would receive in a courts martial.

In 1942, the US Supreme Court unanimously approved a basic military commission and the exclusion of habeas corpus for eight German saboteurs caught dry foot on US soil. Six of eight were executed less than eight weeks after capture and after a fair trial by military commission. Remember, NONE of the German saboteurs had hurt a fly nor did they destroy any property, they were merely in violation of the Law of War and Geneva Conventions - they were deemed spies and convicted on breaking the Law of War.

What's different now is Obama's sorry excuse for war crimes procedures. Unlawful combatants are NOT entitled to extra legal privileges and could have been legally shot dead on site on the battlefield, but instead were captured, treated with dignity and respect and according to the Law of War, the spirit of Geneva, and with dignity and respect. Waterboarding and other Enhanced Interrogation Techniques were used on a handful of detainees, which yielded important information which saved many lives. Don't just take my word for it, former President George H.W. Bush describes this in his memoir, Decision Points."
