I know, I know, it is terrible that Obama had 8 years of school shootings and he did nothing about them. Let me guess, it wasn't his fault they happened and he did what he could but it is someone else's fault he got nothing done.

This headline is the type of pabulum that the left throws out trying to push for gun control rather that looking for more holistic solutions. It must be the gun, it must be the NRA's fault, it must be Republican's fault. That about right?

We need to address a host of items here:
- Minors with long records of crime/violence that may be withheld from background checks
- The local police department's engagement with over 30 calls from this kids home. How does this get walked past?
- The FBI missing two very specific and distinct warnings (see something, say something). We had two real leads identifying this guy by name.
- Perhaps increase the age to buy a weapon to 21 (we do it for alcohol). With exceptions for those under 21 in a LEO or military job.
- Mental health screening. How do we get a screen into a background check to disallow someone from buying a weapon legally?
- We need to get felony convictions on people which will prevent them from buying a weapon. The days of coddling felons and plea dealing to misdemeanors to get a conviction need to end too. A felony conviction stops the legal gun buy.

None of this will stop the person that steals a gun or buys one illegally. Most shootings are done in about 5 minutes (this latest was done in about 6 minutes). The cops will never be there that fast. That is an operating reality. The only way to address it is to have people on campus armed and ready. You may not like it but that is reality.

Good common sense points. The assault weapon ban under Clinton statistically didn’t make a dent. But let’s ban them any way then we can say we did something!

A couple of quick responses....Why do we need a law to keep felons from buying guns?
I have never seen or heard of a felon going into a gun store to buy a gun, they either buy them on the street or steal them.
Take the "Gun Free Zone" signs away, all they are is an invitation.
Train and arm school personnel, after all they are already there.
Finally....Gun laws don't work. New laws won't work they don't or can't enforce the ones we have now. Name one gun law that actually works.
Want to stop crime and killing, give CC to the good guys, the bad guys won't know who has a gun and might think twice before using one.

The ones who have no gun to deliver effective fire and stop the attacker in the "gun free" (except for the killer's gun) school zone.

Exactly. It's all about response time. When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

The dems will say pro-second amendment people. The repubs will say the anti-gun lobby. The left won't listen to the right and the right won't listen to the left. It's a political hot-button issue. Stalemate!

But the left, unlike the right, is willing to take away our unalienable right to defend ourselves by force if necessary.

Cpl (Join to see) - We've tried the left's theory of gun-free zones for decades now, and it has proven to be an unmitigated disaster. It's time to arm the teachers. Take the Israeli approach, and the problem will disappear.

SPC Martin Wiesiolek - It's not about proposed legislation, it's about the rhetoric. Listen to them, they still idolize Mao and Stalin and other "western" cultures who've taken that step. They know that any legislation will be killed, figuratively, so they take incremental steps to disarm the public; Chicago and California are prime examples. In NO after Katrina, they were seizing weapons, sometimes by force and some are still fighting to get those weapons back.
