Petition seeks full honors military funeral for hero Florida JROTC student

In general I'm not a fan of making exceptions to policies in the immediate wake of a tragedy (when emotions are running high and heads may not be clear) but in this case I think it's a reasonable discussion.

By all accounts this (Air Force?) JROTC cadet put himself in harms way to protect his fellow students and this is absolutely commendable and worthy of honor.

It seems like one possible way to make this happen if they wanted to would be to posthumously make the Cadet an "Honorary Airman" (again assuming he was in AFJROTC based on the uniform pictures I've seen) and then call that good enough for assign an honor guard for his funeral.
