It’s common knowledge that all cars need to not only slow down but stop when a school bus is letting off children.
However, dash-cam footage from a Millbury, Massachusetts, school bus shows a frightening sight. A mom named Ashley Makridakis, was picking up her 7-year-old daughter, Lyla, when they narrowly avoided being hit by a speeding SUV.
The bus driver can be heard laying on his horn — both to alert the family and send a clear message to the car to slow down.
“I was just bawling,” Ashley told CBS Boston. “I was just holding Lyla, and I was bawling. I was like, ‘Thank you for paying attention and warning us.’”
Thankfully, the mother and daughter were OK, only shaken up by the close encounter. “Kind of, like, scared and, like, uncomfortable,” Lyla said.
CBS Boston also reported that the police are trying to track down the reckless driver. While they couldn’t get a read on the license plate, the police were able to identify the make and model of the car. They hope that will give them a lead.
The mom also has some strong words for the unknown driver. “Irresponsible, reckless actions almost left two boys orphaned and my husband without a wife or a daughter,” she said.
