I would've loved this detail when I was in the guard.

To be 100% honest about this border ARNG deployment. What got California Governor Jerry Brown to say he might be interested in this. A deployment by the Feds of a 1-2 thousand National Guardsman from your state has a measurable economic impact. So it was really dumb of some governors (Oregon and Montana) to say they are not interested. Flip side of the coin of course on the not interested angle is POTUS has the ultimate say when it comes to what an ARNG unit does, regardless of a Governor's wishes. That was already decided by the Supreme Court when MA Governor Micheal Dukakis attempted to stop a MA ARNG deployment to Central America back in the 1980's when the Democrats were second guessing President Reagan on foriegn policy.

For those misinformed people out there that think Trump is militarizing the border. Please note the weaponry at the ready on these Texas DPS Border Patrol Boats. It is already a intermittent shooting war with smugglers in Texas.

It has a measurable economic impact on the states, like California, where the Guardsmen are deployed to serve. It does not have a similar impact on the states that only send their Guardsmen to other states (like Oregon and Montana).

As to the machine guns on the DPS boats? It's a political photo image ploy. None of the boats have fired their MGs at anything other than paper targets.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Thats great the boats are doing their job (if what you say is true). However it is still a shooting war in South Texas near the border with smugglers.....

The boats are Yellowfins and can operate in as little as 22 inches of water. Those are M240B's mounted on each boat.

SPC Erich Guenther - the M240s is a sign of the over-militarization of police.
