“This is what is going to happen when you close down the Office of Guantánamo Closure for political reasons,” said former Ambassador Daniel Fried, the first special envoy who negotiated detainee transfers in the Obama administration. “Countries conclude that we don’t care anymore, and there is no follow-up.” - Exactly, Messers Charlie Savage, Declan Walsh and Dionne Searcey. That is the point. We don't care, nor should we. Human rights abuse, you say? How about human responsibility abuse? 730 detainees have been RELEASED from the US military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and not ONE executed, beheaded, blown up, hacked to death, dragged naked and lifeless through the streets, drowned or burned alive, as our enemies have done to us and/or our allies. We are the most benevolent country on planet earth. ICRC physicians I worked with at Gitmo (and later in Iraq) told me, "No one does [detention operations] better than the US." Detainees enjoy FREE Qurans, prayer rugs/beads, white robes, beards, halal and special Muslim holy holiday meals, directions to Mecca on guard towers and cell floors, services of US military Muslim chaplains, world class health care, library, recreation, TV and DVD's. The Islamist equivalent to Gitmo is a pile of heads. There is no moral comparison between Gitmo and how our enemies treat their captives. Yet, you in the MSM behave as if every single detainee, past, present and future are victims. How are you not Islamist apologists? How are you not disloyal Americans? You forget that each and every detainee is at least an unlawful combatant who could have lawfully been shot dead on the battlefield. You don't know that even lawful combatant POW's may be held without charge or trial "until the end of hostilities," IAW the Geneva Conventions and Law of Land Warfare? C'mon, guys, it's US vs. Them. We're at war. Can't we at least FORGET about those who have been paid for, uh, er, um, released? Who really cares whether or not they disappear when repatriated to their country of origin? I didn't read about a New York Times home for wayward detainees. I must have missed the part about the ACLU, Reprieve, the Miami Herald, Washington Post, ICC, Amnesty, et. al., pitching in to pay for Ritz Carlton rooms for these guys. Please. Spare me. Those who still are, are lucky to be alive, and you know it. Keep Gitmo open, and then fill it up. Make Gitmo Great Again (#MGGA). Hooah!
