Congrats on the 9 months sober! That is a real accomplishment. If you ever need anything, brother, let me know. I quit 3 years ago. As to the reading, I have a friend who is into drugs and alcohol and he can't really read, either. I don't know how you can go through life without reading, I read about 150 books a year!

My first published book was written for college students who could not read above a third grade level. Using 3rd grade primers in college remedial reading classes exacerbated the problem (why bother to learn to read if it wasn't interesting). Thus, they needed books written using a 1,200 word vocabulary, with short sentences, a cliff hanger at the end of every chapter, and of interest to a young adult. I could introduce 10 new words but had to repeat them throughout the story and use them in context to help understanding. Now, if that isn't shocking enough, I was told by a professor that he had post graduate students who were functionally illiterate. Fail? Fail! How did it come to be? Simple. Indoctrination has replaced education in our school system. You don't want students reading. It could interfere with the ideology they are being fed by their "teachers" if they start reading contrary ideas. BTW, best on the rehab. Stay strong and trust the process. It works if you want it to.
