Lisa Ocelnik (who authors under the pen name Leilani Anastasia) lost a best friend, lover, caregiver and “spouse” recently in former Marine, Michael Russo, who took his own life after a losing battle with combat PTSD. Michael heard the call of retreat from the bugler and then executed a final retrograde movement. Our fallen brother cannot tell us how much he hurt, or even where he hurt, but Lisa would like to share his story and hers with us in hopes others won’t have to suffer as he did, or feel the way she does now after having found him with the gun that he took his own life with. Lisa wants to raise funds so that she can focus on writing this story. Please help/share if you can. Thank you!

Montgomery, you sharing this means THE WORLD to me. You see, Michael used to tell me that every man needs a mission. And he became my mission. The PTSD made him lose the way of his mission. But that doesn’t mean that I cannot complete the mission that started out with USMC Lance Corporal Michael Russo. My goal is to make AT LEAST ONE Vet rethink their decision about committing suicide. Hopefully far more than one though.
Michael was my lover. Michael was my best friend. Michael was my EVERYTHING as I’m sure that many partners feel about their Combat Vet.
Michael was a brave, strong and AMAZING man. However, the PTSD monster was bigger than both of us.
My heart is forever broken.

Welcome to my family, my military family. We will stand by you and support you and hear you out. May God bless you and keep you and give you Peace and strength during this difficult time. I believe in your goal, as noble as any soldier's mission. This poem is for you and my brothers and sisters at arms. Healing comes slow, but it does come, one day at a time, and I hope and pray each day gets a little better if not easier. Hooah!
Retreat
Retreat is the hardest sound a soldier hears.
The trumpet calls and pierces a warrior’s heart.
Forward, ever forward! His courage calls!
Moving back is antithetical to everything he knows.
When he is called, however, he goes,
Because a good soldier always does what he’s told
Regardless of how his heart feels
“Live to fight another day,” the shrill sound beckons.
“But this was my day to die,” the warrior thinks.
“This was a good day to die.”
