The Lee Enfield line is far from obscure. Not sure why they would elude to the assumption that we've never heard of them. The British Empire was built and held on them. For a long time as well. The Mk 5 was designed after our Jungle Carbine.

In a comparison of WWI bolt action battle rifles the Americans had the best target rifle, the Germans had the best hunting rifle, the British has the best battle rifle, and the Russians had the best spear.

During WWI the Germans did not believe a man in battle with a rifle could hit a person at over 100 yards. When the hillbillies showed up doing it, it scared the hell out of the Germans.

I have three, and it is far from obscure. I have a 1915 & 16 No 1. Mk3, and a No 4. Mk1 1948. A faster bolt action rifle I have never found. Oh there was that 1917 Enfield/Winchester/Remington model that was a hybrid Mauser/Enfield with cock on closing action some guy named York used to capture a bunch of Germans with (the Model 1917 had numbers that exceed the 1903).
