Lower the prices a little and there would be more people buying.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - Depends on what you are buying...but I go with my dad to the commissary...and many things are much better buy...and the commissary produce is so much better than Walmart...the Meats are better and prices are much better...especially chicken and ground beef...the oriental food is much more abundant in the commissary and way cheaper than the Walmart...it just depends on the product.

Sales are down for various demographic reasons and the commissaries collectively lose money.

Commissaries loose money because I can go to local large Chain Supermarkets like Kroger's, Meijer's, etc and get better prices right off the shelf. Additionally, states like Ohio do not charge tax on groceries but in the commissary I have to pay a surcharge. So the only way they are competitive is when something is on a really good sale.

Nothing to do with prices but in my case I live about 45 miles from the nearest facility so only go to the commissary when I have a Dr appt etc.

The Supermarket Lobby on Capitol Hill's going to fight the death because that means less profits for them. Watch this be stalled with lawsuits. Excellent idea. I remember the days when Army Reserve and National Guard people like me could only go there 12 times a year because of political pressure to limit our access.
