I taught my son the proper handling and use of weapons when he was younger, now my grandson is taught the proper handling and use of weapons by his step dad. He's very good at handling weapons.

My first gun safety courses were taught to me by the Boy Scouts.

Later, I taught both my children at a early age about guns. We went shooting often and I taught them all the standard safety rules, etc. My fear wasn’t that they would access my guns, but that they may find them elsewhere (friends house, etc). They were taught that if they ever saw a gun laying around to not touch it, don’t let anyone else touch and to get an adult. To ensure that they would do the right thing, I would often “test” them. I would leave an unloaded handgun in odd places in the house and see what there would do when they found it. They passed the test each time.

Both of them never had a problem getting into guns growing up. They both became LEO’s and we still often go to the range together.
