Considering the source (HuffPost) I wouldn't expect to find my favorite quote of all time. Actually, there were no quotes from military leaders in the entire article.
"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." Colin Powell

SGT (Join to see) I do not despise HuffPost. I am probably one the few conservative individuals who reads HuffPost and other left leaning media. After working with State Dept. for the last five years I learned that someone needs to be able to argue both sides of a story in order to articulate their side logically while also basing it in facts not just opinions. My above comment was directed at HuffPost being a very left biased media, they would not have included any leadership quotes from military leaders as it does not fit their readership demographics. However, writers, ancient Greeks, physicists, athletes, etc. are more likely to inspire their readers as opposed to a retired military General. No matter how inspiring his quote may be.
Another great Powell quote is:
"Leadership is solving problems. The day Soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership." Colin Powell
In order for the above quote to resonate with a civilian would be to substitute "subordinate" in place of "Soldier".
