No, no, no.... yes there is an element to looking smart, but as an CHENG and DCA, I will tell you hat the new SCBA's will never seal when you have a beard. You die, and put others at risk. If you want to look like a hipster, get out. If you want to look like SPECOPS, well you aren't (the gut gives you away)!

Navy used to have gas masks that sealed around facial hair

Aside from the SEAL's and beard growing contests during deployments....No.
I remember shaving mine off on 31 Dec 1983, never missed it like i thought i would.
