This will be the death-knell for a great and time honored institution.
I reside not thirty minutes from the BSA Camp I attended almost thirty years ago. On occasion, I've been asked out there to speak with the boys, and I can tell you for a FACT that these changes are neither popular, nor widely supported within our regional council.
Parents and their sons will start rejecting the program based on their personal beliefs, and the nation will lose a great resource for future leadership development.
As for this former Eagle Scout...it was and will always remain the BOY Scouts of America.

So disappointed. Boys need a place to be boys and to learn about becoming men.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Then again, fathers and uncles and grandfathers could always teach the boys in their respective families how to be men?
Not to shift gears too hard, but if society is going to accept the “#MeToo” movement as a whole, it has to accept that certain building blocks of society (Especially male-centric ones like the Boy Scouts) are going to inevitably be changed right along with it.
Times, they certainly are a changin’.
Just some thoughts...

Unfortunately, some sectors of our society have boys being raised in male absence zonez. No fathers, uncles, etc. The women's movement would yell you it doesn't matter but I disagree.Boys need good male role models and a space in which to test limits

Lt Col Charlie Brown - I agree, 100%. However, refer to my original comment. With the current shift our society is experiencing as a whole, it’s natural for male-centric organizations like the Boy Scouts to pulled into the sphere (rightly or wrongly), and be influenced, as well.

CPT Jack Durish it is going to go away soon anyway. When I was a kid Boy Scouts was about being a well rounded person. Everything from making camp to acting to citizenship was covered during a boy scout meeting. We did things. We learned things. Now it is a shell of what it used to be. I don't care about allowing gay scout leaders, allowing girls, or any of that political correctness stuff. I care that the organization as a whole has lost its direction: teaching young people to care about the planet, their country, their community, and themselves. Get back to the ideals that made scouting such a great experience for so many young boys.

The BSA or SA has been dying a slow death since the 1960s. They tried everything. Keeping boys until they're 18 rather than 14 (and don't you think that 18 year olds just loved hanging with little brothers). The Mormon Church bought and kept the BSA alive for a time, but it appears they would rather create their own program for their own kids (smart move). So, so long, my memories. At least you and I had it...
