Another misleading headline. What the story actually conveyed is:
___________________________________________________________________________________
No less than 26 percent of Americans say they agree that "the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior."
"Some 43 percent of Republicans say yeah, let the president shut down media operations he doesn't like. And 12 percent of Democrats agree, along with 21 percent of independents."
________________________________________________________________________________
It was a poll taken by Ipsos and we all know how accurate polls are. It isn't just some people identified in a poll as Republicans but also democrats and independents.
You might want to read up on the Obama administration going after the media with the DOJ. This actually happened, it is not a poll.
Both the AP and Fox were targets. This is an actual story of government abuse, not a poll about it. There are lots of stories about the actual abuse by the government out there to read if you are really worried about the feds going after the media. It has happened, very recently.

They all stand with Fox News' James Rosen
From journalists to associations to media outlets they all stand with Fox News' James Rosen against the Department of Justice.

MSgt Neil Greenfield - 1st, this story has nothing to do with Trump. It was a poll taken of some number of republicans, democrats and independents. You are trying to make it appear that Trump has said or done something to stifle the media. He has not.
The last administration actually did do something very real to stifle and chill the media but hey, why let that bother you. I am sure the next crop of democrats will be better.
If you know anything about polling you would know how critically important the demographics of the group are and how the questions are worded and any bias the poll takers might have. It is not an exact science, they are wrong all the time.
Most companies do not do a ton of polling, they use control groups and surveys of consumers that have actually purchased and/or used the product. They prefer more solid analytical approaches. Random calls/polls to a few thousand people about a product will not yield a usable marketing oriented result.

MSgt Heather D. If you’re referring to my political party during POTUS #44’s term, then that would be the GOP.

Cpl Jeff N. The polling questions were asked with a specific slant as noted by the author of the article, “A caveat about the poll: The Ipsos methodology, involving online panels and statistical adjustments, is not as reliable as a random telephone survey. But even if the numbers are somewhat off, they are still troubling.”
I haven’t made it appear that POTUS #45 has done anything. The article is talking about the thinking of a number of respondents to the poll about what “they” think POTUS #45 should do.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - The Tech companies are pulling, deleting and restricting Conservative and Opinion Based/Satire Commentators.
They have done this via the constant calls from CNN and others to censor their opposition and or removed.
Even Rep Maxine Waters has called for Conservatives to be harassed.

‘Be careful what you wish for Max!’: Trump takes aim at Waters after she calls for public...
"The people are going to turn on them ... they're going to absolutely harass them,” Waters told MSNBC.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - There may be calls to have the POTUS to do something.
I do pray that instead the Tech Companies are taken to court and the current laws are applied to them.
Even the gov could press laws against them. There are some great legal minds that say that the Tech Companies have grossly over stepped.

Why don't we go to the source of the information used for the editorial (opinion) from Fox News.

SSG Robert Webster "A final statistic is somewhat reassuring, only 13% of Americans agree that “President Trump should close down mainstream news outlets, like CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times.” Here less than a quarter of Republicans (23%) agree along with fewer than one in ten Democrats (8%)."
Thanks for pointing straight to the horses mouth. The last statement in this poll is a good one.
