Iraq Requests Abrams Tank, Humvee Sale
WASHINGTON — The US State Department has signed off two potential sales to Iraq, one for for M1A1 Abarams tanks and another covering M1151A1 up-armored Humvees.
If approved by Congress, the sales could significantly improve the ground capability of the Iraqi military as it continues to fight against the Islamic State group.
The Abrams request would deliver 175 of the heavy tanks, for an estimated value of $12.4 billion. Those tanks would be in the upgraded configuration featuring a 120mm gun. Also included in that sale would be 15 M88A2 tank recovery vehicles, tens of thousands of rounds of 120mm ammunition, 190 AN/VRC-92 vehicular dual long-range radio systems and 700 M1028 commercial utility cargo vehicles, among other support gear.
In a news release announcing the potential sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) noted that the tanks would "facilitate progress towards increasing [Iraq's] ability to quickly mobilize and defend its border." The announcement also said the sale would demonstrate "the on-going US commitment to support Iraq's continued development into a sovereign, stable, and long-term self-reliant strategic partner."
EDITORIAL COMMENTS:- [1] Is the real problem that ISIS is starting to run low on the ones that they got from the Iraqi Army just a while back? [2] Is the really interesting part about this "sale" that it is being funded through a "loan" from the US government? (Remember, if your government gives someone else's government the money to buy stuff that is produced in your country that is NOT subsidizing your country's manufacturers but if some other country gives your country money to buy stuff that is produced in their country that IS subsidizing their country's manufacturers [as is having lower labour costs and/or cheaper natural resources and/or less expensive social safety nets].) [3] Wasn't Iraq a "sovereign, stable, and long-term self-reliant strategic partner" when they put up the big "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" sign?

I would require one thing before allowing this sale......a satellite controlled remote detonate function. ISIS will be using them within a week.

It's our fault that things like this happen. When one political party says they want to fundamentally change our country. They can only change our country by trampling on our Constitution. Wich makes them the enemy of freedom. Yet few if any of us are coming together to defend our country from the enemy within. Does anyone here think we can wait for the Republicans to fight for we the Ppl? We, the ppl have to show them what the right thing to do is! Take a stand for freedom and the American way of life. If our leaders won't lead, it's up to us. Memorial day is 11 Oct. It Would be great if we honored those who sacrificed so much for us. By fighting for our rights and freedoms again! Grassroots from the bottom up organize like-minded Ppl. And figure out what you can do to start this movement! Write up your local and National grievances, and in, groups make them known to our elected officials. And do your best to get positive news coverage or at least get some conservative bloggers to attend when respectfully you confront our elected officials.
